Duplex and Triplex Memory: Which Is More Reliable?

چکیده

A large number of choices exist when designing a reliable memory system. The choices range from simple replication to complex error control codes (ECC). Simple replication (without ECC) has a better performance as compared to systems using ECC, as ECC necessitate decoding, deteriorating the performance. Clearly, simple replication improves performance at the cost of increased redundancy. An intermediate solution is to use combination of replication and simple ECC. Similar approach has been used in some commercial systems [1]. This report compares reliability of memory systems formed using simple triplication (without ECC) with memory systems formed by duplicating memory modules that use ECC. Reliability of a system using duplication of memory modules, with codes capable of only error detection or codes only capable of single error correction, is shown to be worse than simple triplication. It is also shown that systems using duplication of memory modules, with codes capable of single error correction and double error detection can achieve better reliability than simple triplication.

ساختار مولکول DNA سه رشته ای: اهمیت و کاربردهای پزشکی آن

Back in 1957, when investigators produced a triple-stranded form of DNA while studying synthetic nucleic acids, few researchers paid much attention to the discovery. However, triplex DNA was never entirely forgotton and especially since 1987 its structural and functional importance in biological systems as well as its medical applications and therapeutic potentional have been extensively studie...

Recognition of RNA duplexes by chemically modified triplex-forming oligonucleotides

Triplex is emerging as an important RNA tertiary structure motif, in which consecutive non-canonical base pairs form between a duplex and a third strand. RNA duplex region is also often functionally important site for protein binding. Thus, triplex-forming oligonucleotides (TFOs) may be developed to regulate various biological functions involving RNA, such as viral ribosomal frameshifting and r...

Comparison of Duplex and Triplex Memory Reliability

A large number of choices exist when designing a reliable memory system. The choices range from simple replication to complex error control codes (ECC). This paper compares reliability of memory systems formed usi...

Binding of ethidium bromide to a DNA triple helix. Evidence for intercalation.

The interaction of ethidium, a DNA intercalator, with the poly(dA).poly(dT) duplex and the poly (dA).2poly(dT) triplex has been investigated by a variety of spectrophotometric and hydrodynamic techniques. The fluorescence of ethidium is increased when either the duplex or triplex form is present. Binding constants, determined from absorbance measurements, indicate that binding to the triple hel...

The formation of adjacent triplex-duplex domainsin DNA.

The ability of single-stranded DNA oligomers to form adjacent triplex and duplex domains with two DNA structural motifs was examined. Helix-coil transition curves and a gel mobility shift assay were used to characterize the interaction of single-stranded oligomers 12-20 nt in length with a DNA hairpin and with a DNA duplex that has a dangling end. The 12 nt on the 5'-ends of the oligomers could...
